Private yoga with Rebecca

Yoga/Asana

Why private yoga? Learning “at the foot of your teacher” is the most traditional and transformative way to practice yoga. There are many reasons to consider taking private lessons:

  • New to yoga? Group yoga classes can often intimidate a beginner. Private lessons provide you with undivided attention. You learn the postures and breaking under my watchful eye, and reduce the possibility to be frustrated or injured, and increase your chances of developing a long-lasting practice.
  • Designed just for you. Your private yoga session will help you to master posture, breath, focus and relaxation tools that you can use every day to increase flexibility and strength, reduce anxiety and stress, and allow you to live with greater ease.
  • Thrive. The practice of yoga includes physical and mental practices that allow you to thrive in your life, not just live. The awareness and relaxation you develop and cultivate with me in your sessions will start to move into every moment of your life.
  • Already take group classes? Some yogis find that after months or years of studio practice, they desire a deeper understanding of their practice, work toward more advanced poses or learn kriya and meditation techniques not typically taught in group classes.
  • What’s this Marma thing? Marma is a pressure point therapy (see below for info). Marma uses firm pressure on various landmarks on the body to release physical and energetic tensions in the body. The result is an experience of great ease in the body and mind. My recommendation and signature class is to combine this therapy with the yoga practice.

Classes can be 60 or 90 minutes, taught in your home. Whether you are new to yoga, an experienced yogi, or somewhere in between, if you are interested in being the sole focus of my attention and taking private classes or experiencing my 90-minute signature yoga + Marma session, contact me here!

Marma Point Therapy

Marma is a type of pressure point therapy that releases physical and energetic tension in the body. Firm pressure is applied to various landmarks (or marma points) on the body. The result is an experience of great ease in the body and mind.

Marma is a sanskrit word meaning “hidden” or “secret”. There are hundreds of marma points that map to your body, but typically the practice is done through a systematic application of pressure to select points. The practice of marma comes from the ancient science of Ayurveda. An eastern practice, Ayurveda is the sister science to yoga, and is based on the idea of bringing your unique characteristics into balance so that you feel ease in life.

What does this mean, really?! Think of it this way: If you are staying up late but still awaken every morning very early to go to work, you eventually will become burnt out and exhausted. You’ll sleep for a few days, get rested on your weekend, or spin on and on until you finally collapse. With Ayurveda, you learn about yourself to understand what it is about YOU that drives you to stay up late, even thought you know you should be going to bed earlier.

Then Ayurveda goes steps beyond that basic knowledge, and teaches you how the place you live, the weather, the food affect you to keep you up. And even further, to give you practices, foods, and lifestyle choices that will help you feel balanced ALL of the time, not only on your Mondays or Tuesdays when you’ve finally caught up a little on rest and sleep.

So MARMA is one of the tools of Ayurveda that we teachers can use to help accelerate the process of bringing you into balance.
