Private yoga with Rebecca

Learning “at the foot of your teacher” is the most traditional and transformative way to practice yoga. There are many reasons to consider taking private lessons:

Group yoga classes can sometimes be intimidating to the beginner, so taking a few classes where your practice gets the undivided attention of your teacher can be super helpful. Not only do you learn the poses (also known as asana) and other beginning techniques under the attentive eye of your teacher, but you also learn how to modify the practice for your unique body and what is best for your individual makeup, or dosha. This way, when you do you practice on your own or take a group class, you know how to explore options that are best for YOU.

Some practitioners find that after months or years of studio practice, they want to deepen their knowledge of philosophy, work toward more advanced poses, or learn kriya and meditation techniques not typically taught in a group setting. At the same time, they may not have time or the inclination to enroll in a yoga teacher training program, something that is often suggested when students ask for ways to “advance” or “deepen” their practice. Whether you are new to yoga, an experienced practitioner, or somewhere in between, if you are interested in being the sole focus of my attention and taking private classes, please contact me here.

You can also receive “virtual” teaching in a group or privately:

I share meditation time on Friday mornings via Google Groups. Each week we will get together via your computer and meditate. I typically teach the pranayama and kriya techniques similar to what my teacher Alan Finger is teaching at ISHTA Yoga in New York, or classic ISHTA diksha meditation.

I lead you through a few pre-meditative asana (nothing you can’t do in your PJs or work clothes), pranayama, and basic kriya techniques. I talk you through everything, then we sit in silence together for roughly 18 minutes. Afterward, we re-ground and head out into the fresh, clear, and unbound potential of the day or week ahead!

If you are interested in joining in, sign up here for a weekly reminder email to sign in for this Google Group here.

If you are outside the New York City area or have a tight schedule, we can have a consult on the phone to help you with your personal practice, or even hold a session over video. If this is something that interests you, contact me here.
