The Three R's

The Three R's

I know you aren’t sticking with your goals every day. I don’t either. I also bet money that you beat yourself up for not doing what you aimed to or what you know you can do. You are so good at this tirade of negativity on yourself you probably don’t even realize you’re doing it anymore. So there’s three things to get on with here: Review, Re-start, and Regard.

Review what didn’t happen and if it was really important,
Re-start the project or goal, and most importantly, in every moment,
hold yourself in the very highest Regard.

That meditation you wanted to start this morning? Review why you thought you wanted to do it. For mental acuity, to lower your blood pressure, because someone told you it might be a good idea for you? Is it something YOU WANT in your life? Try this Re-start: Do it for 3 minutes before you go to bed. Sit right there in your bed quietly, with your eyes closed and watch your breath. Give yourself enough time to hear your thoughts. Slow them down, and then continue to breathe. See if that’s what you want more of in your life. (I’m guessing it will be) Know that you are worth those few moments of not being distracted or pulled by anything else. That you hold yourself first, in the highest regard. Then lay down, go to sleep.

The exercise or asana routine you wanted to start this morning? Review the impetus behind this goal. Did you want to thrive physically? Or were you thinking to get more Instagram followers by contorting yourself or showing sweaty gym pictures? Did sleep seem more important? Re-start in the same day: Tonight, while you’re wiped out watching TV or whatever in the evening, do as many pushups and sit-ups as you can. Regard yourself with love: Forgive yourself for being human and needing more sleep! And go to bed a little earlier, because taking care of yourself is that important to you.

Whatever it is, that wish list you didn’t get to or the letter you didn’t write or the blog post you didn’t finish? Review your intention behind it. Re-start, do it now, put it on the top of your list tomorrow, or admit that it isn’t the thing you really want or need to be doing and let it go. Regard yourself with the greatest love - don’t berate yourself for not doing whatever it was!

Please try and remember that EVERY DAY is a new time to START AGAIN. And remember every day is made up of hours, and those of minutes, and seconds...every time the clock ticks forward is an opportunity to begin again. EVERY time. So don’t waste any more time scolding and being critical of yourself for what you didn’t do. Start again. Inhale. Review. Exhale. Inhale. Re-start. Exhale. Inhale. Regard yourself with highest esteem. Exhale.
